Summer's here, so just ust ask Steve about his Sizzling Summer Specials! Bet he won't bat an eye lid when asked the first time, (though may look at you quizically), but when he's been asked for the umpteenth time....? Ah! The power of the internet!!! Bar-B-Qs from 6pm - 9 pm.

12th June - Steve has given the green light to beer texting service. Things will move quickly. Be excited!

29th May 2003 - The Maltshovel's beers are now on line, so if you look at www.maltshovel.com at about 5.00 pm you will see what beers we are offering. Of course we can't guarantee one of the listed beers won't run out shortly after publication, but it should be accurate about 95% of the time. By degrees we are coming to our customers....

21st May 2003 - The Maltshovel is set to become the fist pub in the Country to come to its customers....

A few customers thought that it might be a useful service it they could receive a text message on their mobile phones to let them know when a barrel of their favourite beer has gone on sale.

A pilot scheme is planned which will be limited to 50 customers who will be able to nominate three favourite beers. The pilot will be an interesting exercise to test customer demand for such a service and to assess the amount of admin work involved in the scheme.

Final deatils are now being worked out and Steve will need to give his approval to the final plan.

Exciting times. More news soon.

May 2003 - Our erstwhile Webmaster, Graham Hirst has passed control of our web site to Rob Pine. Graham has done a great job in setting up this site and for all his work thus far. Top Man indeed!

Rob says he has no plans to radically change Graham's excellent site, but to build upon the work he has done. More news in due course....

Apr 2003 - Fishing trip
The 3rd expedition of the Maltshovel Deep Sea Angling Club spent a pleasant day fishing out of Portsmouth.

Our eight intrepid mariners confounded expectations by managing to catch lots of fish, incuding some interesting specimens - Thornback Ray, a couple of good sized Smooth Hounds and a Spotted Ray. Many dog fish, too. And we have the pictures to prove it.

Sean Williams (son of our illustrious Captain), was, as the only professional fisherman in the group, getting increasingly annoyed by his lack of success....

"Your all so lucky", said Sean. To which Graham suggested, (quietly), "There's a difference between being unlucky and downright incompetent"!

!Sean eventually landed a 'puppy' of a dog fish to avoid complete embarrassment.

Colin Clarke, licensee of the Shelley was an honoured guest on what was for him his first fishing trip. He was delighted to have caught two fish.

Yes folks, even we can catch fish and a grand day out was had by all.

Thanks to Chef Maurice for filleting our catch. Our fish and chips were the best ever!

Watch the notice board for details of the next trip....
