Malt Shovel technical terminology explained - 'Cask Marque'
This is the mark left on the forehead of a customer by Steve with a single blow from his cellar mallet. The cask marque is awarded for being a prat. It is not enough simply to be a prat. True prat greatness lies in being universally recognised as one - hence the award. Some customers have received this coveted award in successive years, and they are known to us as "complete prats".

Friday, 19th Sept - A Malt Shovel for the Malt Shovel...?
Thanks to Redge and Sue, (from Essex), who found our web site and sent us a picture of an antique Malt Shovel that they have. Yet another example of the advantages of being on the web!

Thurs, 11th Sept - The latest on Kerry's Man Hunt....
Unfortunately Kerry was unwell so didn't work on Wedneday evening. To the chap who phoned the pub and spoke to Aussie David, (who knew nothing of Kerry's quest for a man), we'd like to say, "Bad luck and try again next week." Taipei Tom wondered if "Taking names and phone numbers for Kerry makes him a pimp?". "Yes" came the immediate reply.

Beer for Charity....
The Maltshovel's favoured charity is Friends of Hurstwood Park. Steve has decided that he will get a mystery barrel of beer in and all money he takes for it will be donated to them. Make sure that you drink for charity!

20% off your Chow!....
In support of the Horsham Food Festival, between 6th - 28th September, if you order your food between 3pm and 5pm on weekdays you will get your food at a 20% discount. Steve has teamed up with The Horsham Bacon Factory to bring you Sussex ham and sausages that cannot be bettered. Anyone for ham, egg and chips? Enjoy!

Monday, 8th Sept Midday. Curry nights to be resumed....
It's time to reinstate our Curry Nights. Friday 26th September will be the first curry night of the season. There will be three authentic curry dishes to tickle your tonsils - mild, medium or hot, and all for £5.45. Please book early to ensure you have a table.
(There will be no more BBQs until next year)

Upcoming Ringwood Brewery Tour....
By popular request we are organising another brewery trip for the 1st October. We'll be off to the Ringwood brewery. Meet at the pub at about 3.00pm and getting back to Horsham at about one in the morning. Give your name to Steve if you'd like to go....

Sunday, 7th Sept Festival and Sports News....
Yesterday was a tremendous day of sport and beer. In the fifth test Marcus Trescothick and Graham Thorpe restored parity (and pride). Englands footballers came back from a goal down to beat Macedonia 2-1 and we absolutley stuffed the French at Twickers. Things don't get much better than that. But there was more going on besides....

Celebrations as England score a try....

We saw many of you yesterday at the Drill Hall for the Food Festival. Still more of you came in to the pub armed with your festival glasses for your free sample of beer. There were eight pubs on the trail and we were No 4 on the list. We hope you enjoyed your visit and that you'll pop in to see us again well before next years event!

Gareth from Beer Essentials advises that the Horsham Beer Festival on Sunday, 28th September is completely sold out with 380 tickets being snapped up. The success of last year's event has obviously made this a 'must go' event in your social calendar. Those of you with tickets will doubtless enjoy yourselves tremendously with 25 beers to try. If you don't have a ticket you'll just have to get yourselves to the Malt and make do with our nine beers. (It's always a beer fest here)!
