CAMRA Meeting

On Tuesday 29th January, the local CAMRA branch had its monthly meeting at the Malt Shovel.
Grae was flying the flag for the MS team. The beers were first class, the pub looked immaculate and even the beer engines brass had been polished. Apparently this went extremely well. We just hope that we get the MS back in the GBG.

Exploding trousers

I am 100% with Jeremy Paxman in complaining about the poor quality of some M&S clothing lines.
Monday night at he MS, I was sitting on a stool minding my on business, when all of a sudden I heard a ripping noise coming from the direction of my tousers. I glanced down and found a hole about two inches long where the lower edge of the pocket joined the leg. A minute or so later another rip and the hole was larger, and so on. I finished my pint and left whilst I still had trousers to wear. Doing a Brian Rix was not my idea of a drink at the pub.

These were not ordinary trousers, these were M&S exploding trousers.

Vote to get the MS listed in the Good Beer Guide

I am sure that MS regulars will agree that it is about time we were again listed in the Good Beer Guide. To enhance our prospects vote for inclusion (above).

To this end I have contacted Debbie Bullen, CAMRA North Sussex Secretary, and this is her reply.

Dear Rob,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the Malt Shovel and its inclusion in the 2009 Good Beer Guide. We always welcome recommendations. We are aware of the Malt Shovel's dedication to real ale and do have a social meeting there on Tuesday 29th January. At the moment, we are in the process of surveying pubs for inclusion in the 2009 GBG and have a meeting to decide on which pubs to include at the end of February. We do have a problem in that there are more pubs in our area which could be included than we are allowed, but please be assured that the Malt Shovel is being surveyed and will definately be considered. If successful, the Malt Shovel will be informed by one of our members when the book is published in the autumn. If you are a CAMRA member yourself, then obviously you are more than welcome to attend any of our meetings and vote for which pubs you would like included.

Thank you again for your correspondance.

Debbie Bullen
CAMRA North Sussex Secretary

Is this the ugliest fountain in the World?

This little known piece of trivia may well win you beer when you reveal this gem of a snippet to your friends.

Search Google (or Google images) for 'the ugliest fountain in the world'. And what comes up as number 1? Horsham's very own Shelley Fountain. I kid you not!
